Mr. L. A. Fernando, MA., Dip. ED. (Birm)

Vice-Principal of Wesley, Mr. Lancelot Aelian Fernando joined the staff of Wesley College in 1950, and was Hostel Master (1950-51), and Senior Hostel Master in the period l951-1954. Mr. Fernando was awarded a scholarship to the United States, to the Garett Biblical Institute and North Western University, where he followed a course of studies in the period, l954-l956. Mr. Fernando returned to Ceylon in 1957, and was appointed Chaplain of the school.

H.J.V.I. Ekanayake -Composer of the College Song

HJVI Ekanayake is perhaps better known to generations of Wesleyites as the composer of the rousing College Song, "Boys of Wesley through the land". HJVI was enrolled at Wesley College during its location at Dam Street in 1882, when Rev. Arthur Shipham was the Principal. On leaving School he became a teacher at Wesley for a short time, and put to full use his training in both Western and Eastern Classical Languages.

Sir Oliver - A Man for All Seasons

Sir Oliver Ernest Goonetilleke GCMG, KCVO, KBE, KSTJ, DLL, BA. (1892-1978) is undoubtedly the most illustrious product of Wesley College. He was born on October 20th 1892 in Trincomalee. From humble beginnings as an Assistant Teacher at Wesley he blazed a career to the highest position in the land. His early education was at Wesley College at the time of the legendary Rev. Henry Highfield.

Sir Baron Jayatillake, Kt

Sir Baron Jayatillake, Kt. A distinguished product of Wesley Sir Baron Jayatillake was born on the 13th February 1863. His sheer intellectual ability and handwork reached the top. It was at Wesley Sir Baron passed both the Junior and Senior Cambridge University Examinations, and was the very first winner of the Hill Medal in 1887. DB joined the prestigious Wesley College in 1881, then located in Pettah. He also obtained in 1886 an Honours degree from the University of Calcutta offering Latin and English. He was a brilliant Student, a fluent debater and an impressive speaker. On one occasion during a class exercise he had argued with the Principal Rev Thomas Moscow who graciously conceded that he had got the better of him! He was on the staff of Wesley College for a short Period.
